Production Synapse 1.162 advertises org.matrix.msc3026.busy_presence: false in /_matrix/client/versions. With it on, clients can set presence: "busy", which is what Lotus's Do Not Disturb should send instead of today's unavailable + status_msg: "dnd" (cinny #283).
Then restart matrix-synapse and verify org.matrix.msc3026.busy_presence: true.
Order: this goes together with the client changes in cinny #282 (presence actually sticking: setSyncPresence) and cinny #283 (DND → busy, stop writing "dnd" as a status message). Enabling it alone changes nothing for users.
**Decision (Jared, 2026-10-04):** yes, enable it.

_From the October 2026 client audit (cinny #281)._
experimental_features.msc3026_enabled: true added to /etc/matrix-synapse/homeserver.yaml; backup at /root/homeserver.yaml.bak-20261019010522.
YAML validated, then matrix-synapse restarted. It came back up.
/_matrix/client/versions now advertises org.matrix.msc3026.busy_presence: true.
Client side: cinny #424. Do Not Disturb sends org.matrix.msc3026.busy and keeps your status text.
