From the settings audit #453 (report: https://claude.ai/artifact/L34kAp1L7jdvomjHHbeuzZ).

Now: on Devices, "Local Backup → Export Messages Data / Import Messages Data" saves and loads your encryption keys, not your messages. People looking for a message export pick it, and people looking for a key backup don't recognise it.

Change

  • Phase 1: rename it to "Export encryption keys" / "Import encryption keys". Add one sentence on when you'd need it: moving to a device without key backup, or keeping an offline copy.
  • Phase 2: move it into the new Privacy & security page, next to device verification and key backup (see the layout issue).

Done when: the label says what the file contains, and it sits with the other encryption controls.

Done in two steps:

  • Rename (#464): "Export Messages Data" is now Export encryption keys, with a description saying what the file is.
  • Move (#466): it lives under Settings → Privacy & security, next to the devices and key backup.
